A North Beach–Blue Ridge Deck and Patio Remodel
A backyard is easier to enjoy when your home gives you a natural way to get there. For this family in Seattle’s North Beach–Blue Ridge neighborhood, that meant creating a better connection between their main-floor living spaces and the outdoors, with comfortable places to gather on two levels.
We built a new elevated composite deck and added a sliding glass door from the dining room, making it easier to step outside with dinner or spend time outdoors between activities. Below, a new colored, stamped-concrete patio connects to the walkout basement and gives the family a welcoming spot to gather around the fire pit.
To make the space beneath the deck more usable in Seattle’s wet weather, we incorporated a Trex RainEscape drainage system to direct rainwater away from the patio area. A clear hemlock soffit adds warmth and a finished ceiling overhead, bringing the same attention to detail to the lower gathering space as the deck above.
Limited site access required additional hands and careful coordination to bring materials into the backyard. The finished project gives the family two distinct outdoor spaces that feel connected to their home and offer more ways to enjoy their backyard.
